Why Shal kept coming back to simple.
Shal grew up in a family of eight and started working young. In a house that size you learn early what's worth fussing over and what isn't. Over the years she got pulled toward a plainer, more hands-on way of taking care of herself, and she read, tried, and shared what she found with the people around her.
For a long time that's all it was. A hobby, and a kitchen that doubled as a lab.

Why tallow, of all things.
It sounds strange the first time you hear it. Beef fat, on your face.
Then you find out what it's made of. The fats in tallow are close to the ones your skin already makes, which is why it sinks in the way it does, and why it doesn't need a long list of helpers to do its job.
There's no water in the jar either. Water is what microbes need to grow, so a balm without it stays stable on its own. That's also why there's no preservative in it. There was never anything in there to preserve.
